Hiro Shibuya was born and raised in Tokyo , Japan. He came to Australia in 1987 as a young working holiday maker. As his fondness for the country grew during his stay, he decided to build his life here.
Now he lives with his family in Glebe, in the inner west of Sydney.
Although he is a son of metal machine manufacturer, he took an interest in softer and warmer materials - specifically working with wood. Hiro trained at a traditional woodworking school in Tokyo, Japan. There he learnt to experiment with authentic Japanese tools which he enjoys using in his work here in Australia.
Over the last 20 years, Hiro has worked on various commission works creating custom made joinery and furniture for his clients.
In recent years, he has developed an increasing interest in repairing and restoring wooden furniture. Hiro finds delight in bringing new life into old pieces.
He loves working in local inner west of Sydney but has also had enjoyed completing projects in different areas of Sydney and indeed NSW. Has a lot of experience in on-site work to repair wooden joinery at clients homes.
